FIELD TRIP: Aga Khan Museum
Thank you to Sarah, Lisa, Sue, Shawna and Jen for coming on this trip with us! The class had a great time touring the museum and sketching different patterns they saw in textiles and ceramics. They also had the chance to create 2 pieces of art. In the morning they made their own clay piece and focused on including repeating patterns and were challenged to make it symmetrical. In the afternoon, they created paintings of mythical creatures by combining features of 3 different animals.

ART: Mindful Colouring and Pixel Art
The class asked to have more time to practice their Mindful Colouring! They really enjoy listening to the calming music and focusing by taking their time to carefully colour the extensive patterns. The class was also introduced to Pixel Art. By using grid paper and following step by step instructions on videos, they have created some really neat pictures.

LEARNING BUDDIES:
Reading and Measurement
During our past few visits to our Learning Buddies, the Grade 4's have been helping their Kindie Buddy with their reading and math skills. Our Kindie Buddies have been choosing books at their reading level and showing their Grade 4 Buddies how well they can read by sounding words out and reading familiar sight words. We also helped them to measure how tall they are using non-standard units of measure (i.e., cubes, links).

MATH: Measurement
We have begun our Measurement unit by looking at distance, length and height using mm, cm, dm, m and km. The class went on a Measurement Hunt around the classroom, estimating and measuring different objects. They had to choose the best unit of measure for each object and then convert the measurement into different units. We also practiced converting units in partners and then independently. We used a ladder visual to help use know which direction and how many places to move the decimal.

SOCIAL STUDIES:
Features of Non-Fiction Text and
Physical Regions Presentations

As we finish up our Physical Regions of Canada unit in Social Studies, we looked at different features of non-fiction text (i.e., bold words, tables, headings, pictures). The class worked in groups to see how many different features they could find in our Social Studies textbook. They have also been working very hard on their Physical Regions Presentation. Students are pretending to be Travel Agents by creating a Google Slide presentation and a brochure/flyer about one of the Physical Regions in Canada.
